Program: Graduate School of Cellular and Biomedical Sciences (3-year PhD program)

Project Overview

The project focuses on the investigation of a novel potential alcohol biomarker, EtoChoP (ethylated phosphorylcholine). Research will cover its formation, detection in body fluids and hair, stability, elimination, specificity, and selectivity, forming the basis of a doctoral dissertation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and validate detection methods using LC-MS/MS and QToF-MS/MS

• Analyze EtoChoP in samples from alcohol consumption studies and withdrawal therapies

• Study enzymatic formation of EtoChoP via lipases

• Supervise 2–3 Master’s students in related research projects

• Participate in departmental forensic-toxicology projects

• Prepare a cumulative dissertation

• Publish research findings and present at national and international conferences

• Optional involvement in routine forensic-toxicology tasks (≤10% of workload)

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, or related field

• Interest in collaboration with medical departments (e.g., Inselspital)

• Strong English skills for publications and presentations

• Willingness to participate in routine forensic-toxicology activities
